Frequently Asked Questions

Formats & Compatibility

What video formats do you support?

We handle all common legacy video formats: VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, 8mm film, Super 8, and 16mm film. We also work with camcorder tapes and many proprietary formats. If you're unsure about your format, contact us with photos or details and we'll confirm.

How do I know what format my tapes are?

Check the physical tape size and appearance. VHS tapes are large black cassettes (like old movies). MiniDV and Hi8 are smaller camcorder tapes. 8mm and Super 8 are film reels. Our format guide has photos of each type to help you identify yours. When in doubt, email us a photo and we'll confirm.

Do you support rare or unusual formats?

Yes. We've worked with everything from Betacam to proprietary corporate formats. If you have an unusual format, reach out with details and we'll discuss options and provide a custom quote. Many "rare" formats are easier to transfer than you'd think.

Pricing & Costs

How much does video transfer cost?

Pricing varies by format and delivery option. VHS to digital starts at $14.99, MiniDV transfers run $24.99–$39.99, and 8mm film digitization is around $35.99. Bundle options (USB + DVD) are available. Email us your project details for an exact quote—consultations are always free.

Are there any hidden costs or setup fees?

No. Our pricing is transparent—you pay only for the transfer and delivery format you choose. No setup fees, no surprise charges, no minimum orders. The quote we give you is the price you pay.

Do you offer discounts for bulk orders?

Yes. If you have multiple tapes or reels, we can work out bulk pricing. Tell us how many items you have and we'll provide a custom quote.

Delivery & Turnaround

What's the difference between USB, DVD, and digital file delivery?

USB Drive: Portable, works on any computer, great for archiving and sharing. DVD: Physical backup, plays on most DVD players, ideal for family viewing. Digital Files: Cloud download or email link, instant access, easy to share. Choose one or combine them—we can deliver your files in multiple formats.

How long does processing take?

Standard turnaround is 3–5 business days. Rush service is 24–48 hours. Same-day service is available for drop-off projects (bring materials by 2 PM). Turnaround time starts when we receive your materials, so mail-in orders take a few extra days for shipping.

Can I get same-day service?

Yes, for drop-off projects. Bring your materials to our New York location by 2 PM and we can process many formats the same day. For mail-in orders, rush service (24–48 hours) is available. Contact us to discuss your timeline.

Do you offer rush or emergency service?

Absolutely. We understand tight deadlines. Rush fees apply, but we can turn around most projects in 24–48 hours or even the same day for drop-offs. Email or call to discuss your urgent project and we'll provide a rush quote.

Process & Quality

How do I prepare my tapes for transfer?

Check your tapes for obvious damage (mold, loose spools, broken cases). Gently clean the exterior with a soft cloth—avoid harsh chemicals. Keep them in a cool, dry place until transfer. Label them if possible so we know which content is which. Tapes in poor condition are still transferable; we'll handle them professionally.

Is my data secure? What happens to my original tapes?

Your privacy and security are top priorities. We process materials on-premises, don't share files with third parties, and return original tapes to you after transfer. Your files are yours alone. We recommend keeping original tapes as a backup.

Can you restore old or damaged video quality?

We digitize your video as-is, preserving the original quality. Significant restoration (color correction, audio cleanup, artifact removal) is beyond standard transfer but may be available as a custom service. Ask about restoration options when you request your quote.

How do you ensure quality?

All transfers happen on-premises using professional-grade equipment. We review every project for quality before delivery, handle tapes with care, and use best practices for each format. Our 45+ years of experience means we know how to get the best results from legacy media.

Can you handle mail-in orders? What if I can't visit in person?

Yes, we accept mail-in orders. Pack your materials securely in a padded box, include a note with your contact info and project details, and ship to us. We'll process your materials and deliver files via your chosen method (USB, DVD, or digital download). Turnaround starts when we receive your package.
